April Plant of the Month

The ONE plant you need in your garden in April…

Now, tulips might seem like the obvious choice, but as I’m all about ‘low faff, high joy’ I’m going to give you something that didn’t require you to plant it 5 months ago, only to get to enjoy it for a few short weeks (although obviously I’m going to tell you that planting tulips only takes 20 mins and is totally worth it, once I’ve convinced you of my ways 😉)

No, April is all about Choisya (aka Mexican Orange Blossom) - another 12 months of performance for zero effort…

✅ Evergreen - in various shades from deep, glossy green to bright golden, almost yellow foliage, providing interest all year round 💚
✅ Flower from April to June, with many varieties producing a second flush in late Summer/Autumn
✅ Both the foliage and flowers smell divine 🥰
✅ There are so many varieties to choose from, so you can find a foliage colour, size and light level preference to suit you
✅ Some varieties are happy being baked in full sun and are drought tolerant once established so won’t need frequent watering, while others can cope in partial shade if you’ve got a tricky spot to fill ☀️🌥️
✅ Grow relatively slowly so don’t need regular pruning unless you want/need to restrict their size ✂️
✅ Pollinators love the flowers 🐝
✅ A standalone shrub or makes an excellent, low maintenance, fragrant evergreen hedge
